Uneventful April 14th Council Meeting

April 14th's Borough Council Meeting was uneventful, and the actual meeting portion was very quick. Many of the committees had not met so reports were short, and Councilwoman Dayna Camacho was absent. The agenda items did not result in any questions or comments from those in attendance.
Anyone who came to the meeting hoping to hear about the Budget Presentation was disappointed to learn it was removed from the agenda.
In the last meeting, Mayor Onderko made a point to let those in attendance know that the budget would be presented at April 14th's meeting. When it came time for the public portion, a resident asked why the agenda was not being presented. Mayor Richard Onderko responded:
"It's been delayed until next week. Uh, next meeting, I'm sorry."
"You sure?" the resident continued.
"Yes," replied Mayor Onderko, then he continued:
"One the reasons (resident's name), is I'm still working on figuring out the capital budget for the MHS turf field.
I'm probably going to need a bond ordinance to raise the funds to fix that drainage issue there, and hopefully we won't be on the hook for it, because I didn't create the problem.
We're hoping the New Jersey Infrastructure Water Bank will pick up that bill, but we still have to go out with a bond ordinance.
And that's what the delay is that I need to talk to talk to my Chief Financial Officer about the capital budget."
Mayor Onderko brought up yet again his concerns about specific flooding he attributes to the turf field at the High School. For some reason he always seems to bring this subject up when this particular resident asks a question.
The Mayor implied that the Borough would be funding the fix, and would need to bond for the cost. We are not sure why the Borough feels this is their expense, or why we wouldn't be working with the School District to resolve this matter.
At the conclusion of the Public Portion, the Mayor, Council, and Attorney Maciag went into closed session. The Mayor indicated: "If I had to guess, at least an hour.. the time is 7:25."
Many of the residents left while others remained to see if anything would come from the closed session. After more than an hour, the closed session ended with no action to be taken. The meeting was adjourned and ended.
The next Borough Council meeting will be Monday, April 28th at 7pm.
Unless something changes, we expect the budget will be presented. All residents are encouraged to attend.
